About the Foundation
The Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce Foundation empowers members of the LGBTQ+ community through a path and the power of economic advancement by addressing economic inequities through advocacy, coordinated resources, programs, and research that focuses on the core drivers of LGBTQ+ economic prosperity. The Foundation, founded in 2020, works to carry out the charitable and educational objectives of the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce. Foundation initiatives allow the Chamber to collaborate with strategic partners and organizations to promote economic opportunity and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community especially for communities of color, transgender and gender non-conforming people and women. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization.
The Foundation is dedicated to expanding economic opportunity in the Greater Houston region through education, research and initiatives that focus on the core drivers of economic prosperity for the LGBTQ+ community.
According to funders for LGBTQ Issues, LGBTQ people are more likely than straight people to face poverty, food insecurity, and economic hardship and these economic disadvantages are in part the result of discrimination. Economic inequality must be addressed for the LGBTQ+ community in order to build a thriving LGBTQ+ business community in order to promote generational wealth and support a strong and thriving community for every person.
The Foundation provides educational programming for business owners and corporate leaders, resources for enhancing diversity in the workplace and support to nurture the development of leaders in the LGBTQ+ community and LGBTQ+ workforce development initiatives with the primary goal to create economic empowerment and sustained economic opportunity. In addition, the Foundation supports community-wide efforts to support economic advancement and address inequality for the overall LGBTQ+ community.
